Cold water is piped to the bottom of the tank; hot water is taken off the top. Evacuated tubes are the most efficient solar collector used for water heating. These units perform excellent in any location and the improvement is particularly noticeable in colder climates and on darker days. Evacuated tube systems weigh much less than flat-plate systems but cost significantly more. Individual tubes can be replaced in the event of damage, making long term maintenance potentially less costly.
